Welcome to 45th Gloucester (Abbeydale) Scout Troop

Scouts are the third section of the Scout Association which also has Beavers, Cub Scouts, Explorers and Network. It is usually the third stage of what we hope will be a long and happy membership of the world’s largest young people’s organisation. We aim to introduce 10 ½ – 14 year olds boys and girls to Scouts with a variety of fun and interesting programmes. At the 45th Gloucester (Abbeydale) the Scouts meet on a Tuesday evening at the Abbeydale Community Centre. Our meeting times are from 7.30pm – 9.00pm.

The Scout Leader is Heather Taylor, assisted by John Shirley and Tom Hailes. All leaders are CRB checked and undergo leader and first aid training.

All are unpaid volunteers.

When Scouts join us they are invited to attend for up to 3 weeks to see if Scouting appeals to them before they are invested. This is where the Scout will make a promise and where he/she will become a full member of the troop by receiving a neckerchief and badges. Parents are invited to see their child be invested.

Uniform can be purchased from the Scout Shop at Murray Hall, Tuffley which opens every Thursday evening in term time from 7pm-9pm or from Scout shops on line. We suggest the uniform is only purchased once your child is happy to attend Scouts and is due to be invested. Uniform comprises a green shirt and navy blue/black trousers and group neckerchief (45th), blue/black trousers can be the child’s own or Activity trousers or shorts may be purchased.

Scouts work towards badges and awards, this can involve making things, going places and camping.

Fees for Scouts are payable by Direct Debit, £12.00 PER MONTH before the 12 of every month, the first two weeks are free.  We will also ask you complete a gift aid declaration; Gift Aid is the government scheme that gives us 25 pence for every pound donated to us, which includes the membership fees you pay for your child.

Whilst we make every effort to keep costs down, there are times when outings may incur an extra charge.

If parents/guardians wish to discuss any concerns they may have regarding fees/uniform, they should contact the Section leader who will discuss the matter in confidence with you.

We always welcome parents or relatives who may be interested in helping with the section, i.e. sometimes an extra adult may be required to help with an outing or on an evening meeting or maybe with the group background work for instance helping with fundraising etc.

So what are you waiting for?

Come and join in the fun.
